Lucy Changawa started a community tailoring school with four sewing machines soon after our six weeks training in Malindi in 2014. She raised funds from family and friends to purchase the sewing machines and started off with three young girls and three more women enrolled.
Lucy Changawa is assisting women and young girls from various communities in Malindi attain tailoring skills. They are able to realize an income through orders for school uniforms placed by the various primary schools in the community. The women will eventually acquire sewing machines on hire purchase to start up their own tailoring shops once they are done with training. Since they are from different communities that are kilometers apart, they will be able to grow their livelihood businesses steadily.
